We live in the social media era, where media has enormous power to shape society’s values, decisions, and thoughts. It has never been easier to create false reports, propaganda, and fake news. Easier than ever before.

Because of this, it is our responsibility to recognize the impact of our decisions. It is easy to say, “Okay, they should attack Iran.” But Iran has roughly 92 million people. What we often fail to see is that even if only 10 percent of the population disagrees with the war and has their lives destroyed by it, that still means 9 million people. So justifying a war means supporting the destruction of the lives of millions and millions of human beings.

Our responsibility as citizens of the world is not to decide who deserves to be bombed. Our first reaction should be to stop wars and to protect innocent lives, their homes, their schools, their hospitals, and their sports and cultural centers. There is not a single example where a war started by the United States or Israel has truly resulted in people becoming free.

Today we should ask ourselves whether we really understand the meaning of freedom if it comes with war and when everything is destroyed. The people of Iran have lived under heavy sanctions for decades, including sanctions affecting medical treatments for serious diseases. For many years, no one cared about their economic suffering from the sanctions.

Meanwhile, those who are now attacking Iran openly pursue imperial interests and have attacked multiple other countries in recent years. Iran is not an exception, it is simply another victim.

We should be the voice of the millions who have no voice where the Western media is dominant and they often shape how people understand the people of rest of the world.

Think for a moment. If you are afraid of war, why should others have to accept it? If you fear someone attacking your home or harming your children at school, remember that people in other parts of the world feel exactly the same.

Return to your human instinct. And say no to aggression by imperial powers that continue to destroy our beautiful planet.
